City University of Hong Kong Indra and Harry Banga Gallery Exhibition: "The Power of Play"
Curated by ArtX Hong Kong Institute (ArtX HK) Core Member Professor Espen Aarseth (Dean and Chair Professor of the School of Creative Media at CityUHK) and co-driven by ArtX HK Core Member Professor Alvin Yip (Director of the Indra and Harry Banga Gallery and Adjunct Professor of Architecture at CityUHK), the new exhibition "The Power of Play" is presented at the Indra and Harry Banga Gallery of CityUHK from 4 July to 25 October 2026.
Drawing on the interdisciplinary approach of art, technology, and scholarship championed by ArtX HK scholars, the exhibition examines the fundamental nature of games. Across six major thematic sections, it explores the evolution and cultural impact of play while challenging common misconceptions. Tracing play from pre-human origins through technological leaps—from writing to the digital computer—the exhibition showcases the profound breadth of games across cultures and contexts.
