Program Overview
Foreseeing the Future: Reality and the Infinite
From 19 to 21 December 2025, the inaugural Hong Kong International AI Art Festival was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Hosted by Bauhinia Culture Group, the festival saw City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) deeply engaged as a partner institution in this grand event celebrating the fusion of technology and art. Themed “Foreseeing the Future: Reality and the Infinite,” the festival gathered more than 30 artists from over ten countries and regions, showcasing diverse artworks across frontier domains including data art, generative visuals, and experimental sound.
The festival brought together a distinguished lineup of figures from technology, art, business, and academia. Mr. John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, provided an inscription for the festival. During the opening ceremony, guests including Professor John E. Hopcroft, Turing Award laureate; Professor Jianwei Zhang, Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Professor Jun Fei of the Central Academy of Fine Arts; and Mr. Bicheng Han, founder and CEO of BrainCo, delivered speeches on cutting-edge topics such as AI and education, human-machine collaborative creation, and the integration of technology and culture. Their in-depth insights set a forward-looking and exploratory tone for this cross-disciplinary event.
The “Hong Kong AI Science Week” was held during the festival, collaborating with universities, primary and secondary schools to organize more than 40 public-facing science popularization events, dedicated to building a bridge between science and the public and fostering scientific literacy among Hong Kong youth.
ArtX Hong Kong Institute (ArtX HK) was honored to take part in this landmark event. Professor Fen Lin, Professor in the Department of Media and Communication, Associate Vice-President (Global Strategy) at CityUHK and Director of ArtX HK, was invited as a speaker. Professor Jing Liao, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at CityUHK and a member of ArtX HK, alongside Professor Yuhan Luo, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at CityUHK, organised two workshops at the festival, actively contributing to its mission of exploring the creative frontier and bridging science and the public.
The festival garnered significant media attention, receiving extensive coverage from national outlets such as China News Service and People's Daily, as well as local press and major social media platforms. This widespread reporting underscores the growing recognition of AI art in Hong Kong and the expanding influence of related topics.
