Art as a Vessel Sailing from Hong Kong to the World: The Art of Ancient Chinese Painting and Cultural Inheritance
On 30 January 2026, the Hong Kong Thematic Academic Exchange Event on “A Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings”, jointly organized by City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and Zhejiang University, was held at the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre, CityUHK.
The event, themed “Art as a Vessel Sailing from Hong Kong to the World: The Art of Ancient Chinese Painting and Cultural Inheritance”, gathered over 20 distinguished scholars and experts from premier cultural and academic institutions, including the Central Academy of Fine Arts, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Macau University of Science and Technology, the Palace Museum, the Shanghai Museum, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, and the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
The event focused on key topics, including research on ancient Chinese paintings in Hong Kong collections, international perspectives and methodological innovations in the study and dissemination of ancient painting arts, as well as the cataloging, utilization, and promotion of “A Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings”. From multiple viewpoints encompassing history, art, documentation, and museum curation, the event explored the creative transformation and innovative development of ancient Chinese painting in the contemporary context.
